Crafting the Impossible Cube

The impossible cube, also known as the “one stroke cube,” is a fascinating three-dimensional illusion that challenges the viewer’s perception of space and geometry. Crafted with a continuous edge, this design captivates with its optical illusion.

To construct this continuous edge design, I first modeled the cube in Fusion 360, to determine all necessary dimensions accurately.

Once the design is finalized, the next step involves cutting the wood to the required lengths. For assembly, I chose to glue all the pieces together simultaneously. While this method requires a significant number of clamps as shown in the image below, it streamlines the process and ensures a seamless result.

Although gluing the cube in sections could potentially reduce the number of clamps required, this one-step approach simplified the process and minimized the risk of misalignment.

By adopting certain assembly techniques, creating this captivating optical illusion becomes an achievable endeavor for woodworking enthusiasts.
